VDSL vectoring speeds up copper lines to 100 Mbps

Free OS Upgrade lets LANCOM VDSL VPN Routers support VDSL Vectoring

Aachen, April 22, 2013 - LANCOM Systems, the leading German specialist in network connectivity and wireless LAN, will present a free update to its operating system LCOS for its LANCOM 1781VA VDSL/ADSL VPN routers. The update will enable all LANCOM 1781VA routers to support vectoring.

Vectoring is a further advance to landline broadband coverage. It will provide millions of households in Europe with super-fast Internet connections at a reasonable price. Existing copper networks can be upgraded with VDSL2 vectoring technology. With data rates of up to 100 Mbps, VDSL2 connections will help to satisfy customer demand for even higher bandwidths for HD streaming, multimedia applications, Web downloads or cloud computing.

LANCOM will be supporting vectoring tests by network operators as of Q3/2013. Vectoring is expected to be available for practical use from 2014. Vectoring is an improvement to VDSL2 which reduces undesirable crosstalk or far-end crosstalk (known as "FEXT") on copper cabling between neighboring subscriber lines. This technology can greatly increase the transmission rates per subscriber line. With the currently operated profiles, downloads at up to 100 Mbps and uploads at 50 Mbps are theoretically available. The ITU-T standard for VDSL2 vectoring is known as G.vector or G.993.5.
