External multi-band antenna opens up new applications for UMTS routers

Aachen, November 26, 2008 - Networking specialists LANCOM Systems supplement their range of professional UMTS routers with the new specialized antenna AirLancer Extender O-360-3G. Designed for outdoor installation, this antenna supports all of the relevant GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA frequencies. This antenna enables the UMTS router LANCOM 1751 UMTS to operate even in spaces with weak signal reception.

Universal availability of EDGE and the introduction of the high-speed UMTS standard HSPA increasingly enable UMTS routers to be used for Internet backup, or even as primary Internet access solutions in professional environments. The problem is common enough: Signal reception inside buildings is just not strong enough. A typical example of this is known from construction sites, which benefit enormously from UMTS networking. Site offices are often located in construction trailers with metal walls that completely block radio waves.

With the AirLancer Extender O-360-3G for the UMTS router LANCOM 1751 UMTS, LANCOM now offers a supplementary antenna with that is suitable for installation on masts or walls. The antenna cable transfers the signals to the router. Installation offers further advantages. The O-360-3G is an omni-directional antenna (beam spread 360° x 45°, +4 dBi antenna gain) and there is no need to direct it towards the UMTS base station to ensure good signal reception.

The AirLancer Extender O-360-3G is available as of late November at a suggested retail price of EUR 132.50 excluding VAT. It is supplied with a mounting kit and 5-meter cable.
