LANCOM WLAN Controllers with "in-a-box" hotspot
Free update for voucher printing, script distribution and 802.11n support
Aachen, May 05, 2008 - The new version 7.5 of the LANCOM operating system LCOS supplies a wide range of new functions to the LANCOM WLAN Controllers WLC-4006 and WLC-4025. On offer with LCOS 7.5 is the "in-a-box" solution for public wireless Internet access, new options for configuring wireless LANs through script distribution, and support of IEEE 802.11n.
The public-spot function optionally operates as a standalone system without connections to external billing systems or credit-card companies. The access information in the form of a printed voucher is easy to produce: All it takes is 2 mouse-clicks and a standard PC printer. The operator's logo, such as for a hotel or hospital, can also be integrated with a click of the mouse. The Hotspot function is integrated into the WLC-4006 and is an optional extra for the WLC-4025.
Smart controller architecture for operational reliability and 802.11n
Decentralized architecture gives LANCOM smart controllers decisive advantages regarding availability and the use of IEEE 802.11n access points. Even if the controller should fail the WLAN remains operational. 802.11n technology with data rates exceeding 100 Mbps can be operated without bottlenecks.
Automated configuration with script and firmware distribution
LANCOM WLAN controllers in combination with LCOS 7.5 offer powerful mechanisms for script distribution. Centralized firmware distribution enables all access points in the network to be configured and serviced by LANCOM controllers completely automatically. This includes protocol filters, redirects, Advanced Routing & Forwarding and firmware updates.
Also automated is the integration of new access points, radio-channel selection, and the full-time monitoring of functionality including background scanning.

The WLC-4006 manages up to 6 devices as standard and optionally up to 12. The Public Spot function is included. The standard version of the WLC-4025 manages 25 APs with an optional upgrade to 50 or 100 devices. The standard WLC-4006 is available at 1250 EUR, the standard WLC-4025 at 5499 EUR, prices excl. VAT. The Public Spot Option for the WLC-4025 (for an unlimited number of APs) is available at 1199 EUR (excl. VAT).
