German Federal Office for Information Security certifies LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall UF-360. The market’s first firewall with security certificate as per “BSZ”

Entry of

Aachen, December 16, 2024—The German network-infrastructure and security supplier LANCOM Systems is the first company to receive a security certificate for a firewall in accordance with the “BSZ” test procedure. The “Beschleunigten Sicherheitszertifizierung” (BSZ, fixed-time cybersecurity certification) from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) addresses manufacturers of network components, as these are of outstanding importance for the defense against IT and cybersecurity risks. The LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall UF-360 was certified with the software version LANCOM LCOS FX 10.11 RU4. This next-generation UTM firewall protects against spam, viruses, malware, and cyberattacks in industry, business, administration, finance, healthcare, and critical infrastructures (CIP).

BSI certification is highly relevant in practice

After a comprehensive certification process over several months, which includes rigorous conformance and penetration tests, the LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall UF-360 has proven its resilience to attacks. The practice-oriented BSZ procedure enables a rapid evaluation of critical products, making them more attractive to a broader target market. The BSZ is compatible with the French CSPN and is therefore internationally recognized, as well.

BSI-certified firewall at the highest level

To effectively meet the challenges of increasingly encrypted data communication, the LANCOM R&S®UF-360 is equipped with powerful SSL/TLS inspection. The innovative R&S®PACE2 Deep Packet Inspection Engine protects against complex Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), enables the precise classification of network traffic, protocols, and applications, and it offers effective data-loss prevention (DLP) on Layer 7. Furthermore, potentially dangerous files are analyzed using machine learning in an isolated sandbox to defend against malware and zero-day exploits. The cloud service used for this is hosted in Germany. The LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall UF-360 is the first BSI-certified device in this category that features certified patch management for security updates.

Important component of digital sovereignty

The UTM firewall developed in Germany meets the highest security and data protection standards. The BSZ certificate includes an update guarantee and a quick-response obligation in case of vulnerability reports. As a bearer of the trust mark “IT Security made in Germany”, LANCOM has pledged to keep its products backdoor-free and also fulfills the demanding requirements of the amendment to the IT Security Act for the trustworthiness of central IT components in CIP environments. This makes the LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall UF-360 an important component for greater security, resilience and digital sovereignty in business and administration.
