New 802.11n VPN router, the all-round solution for branch-office connectivity
Aachen, June 22, 2009 - LANCOM Systems present the LANCOM 1821n Wireless, heir to the successful LANCOM 1821+ Wireless ADSL routers. The latest version of the VPN router for professional branch-office connectivity features an ADSL2+ modem, ISDN, an integrated VPN gateway, an extensive range of security functions, and a 4-port switch. The new 802.11n radio module provides greatly improved signal coverage and higher throughput rates than conventional WLAN.
Companies wishing to use VPN to connect smaller branches or home offices have the most to gain. As well as providing VPN connectivity, the router also supports complete networking by wireless LAN—no additional infrastructure is required. Furthermore, the router can be operated as a switch and print server.
The WLAN module supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/h and n, and it operates in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands. Standard equipment includes a comprehensive range of security features, such as fully functional 802.11i with WPA2 and AES encryption, and also 802.1x/EAP (WPA Enterprise).
The LANCOM 1821n Wireless implements WAN connections via any xDSL modem with an Ethernet connector or alternatively via ISDN as a backup. Up to three of the switch ports can be reconfigured as WAN ports, allowing for load balancing across four WAN interfaces. The router also supports virtual networking (VLAN). Virtualization allows the LAN and WAN to be used for multiple purposes.
Remote management, firewall and backup included
Like all LANCOM WLAN routers, the LANCOM 1821n Wireless supports remote configuration and management. Furthermore, the WLAN module can be fully controlled by a LANCOM wireless LAN controller/wireless switch for 24/7 monitoring of security policies and Quality of Services guidelines. This means that there is no need for IT expertise at the branch office.
The integrated high-security firewall with stateful inspection, intrusion detection, and denial-of-service protection screens the network safely and reliably from attacks from the Internet. The management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor and included. These facilitate not only convenient remote maintenance of entire installations and useful setup wizards—such as the 1 Click VPN Wizard for setting up VPN connections between LANCOM routers with the click of a mouse—but also real-time monitoring and logging. Comprehensive backup and high-availability functions guarantee smooth 24-hour operations.
The LANCOM 1821n Wireless is available now at a price of EUR 739 excluding VAT. The device provides 5 VPN channels as standard. An optional extra upgrades this to 25 channels and activates a hardware accelerator. This option is available at EUR 172,50 excluding VAT. The price includes life-long free firmware updates.
