Fast, green and future-proof:

New additions to LANCOM's new generation of routers

ADSL2+ router LANCOM 1781A-3G for fail-safe site connectivity with cellular backup

Aachen, September 19, 2011—LANCOM Systems launches the LANCOM 1781A-3G, successor to the successful LANCOM 1751 UMTS VPN. LANCOM expands its 178x-series of completely redeveloped business VPN routers for professional site connectivity with a model for securing business-critical applications. These products are based on a more powerful hardware platform with much larger memory and faster processors. This ensures that the free LCOS updates from LANCOM can be installed for years to come.

The LANCOM 1781A-3G has an internal UMTS/HSPA+ modem (up to 21 Mbps downstream and 5.76 Mbps upstream) and an integrated multimode ADSL2+ modem for ADSL connections of the type Annex A, B, J or M. It can be operated with any ADSL connection, including the future all-IP connections. With the combination of UMTS/HSPA+, ADSL2+ and VPN, the LANCOM 1781A-3G is perfect for businesses and branch offices whose productive operations rely on a connection to the Internet and company headquarters. The HSPA+ connection provides a cost-effective and powerful cellular backup to the wired Internet connection, for example to secure electronic payments in retail.

A new green Gigabit Ethernet switch provides power-saving functions according to 802.3az for energy-efficient networks, and allows for a fanless design of the device. Four user-configurable ports can be used for LAN, WAN (up to 4x load balancing with additional ADSL, SDSL, VDSL or cable modems), DMZ, VLAN, or monitoring. The high-speed USB 2.0 port powers USB media; it can be used for the connection of a network printer or storage media for configuration updates.

Flexibility through virtualization

The ARF (Advanced Routing and Forwarding) function of the LANCOM 1781A-3G provides up to sixteen virtual networks, each with its own settings for DHCP, DNS, routing and firewall. ARF allows logically separate networks to be operated for different groups and applications on a single physical infrastructure.

Security and backup included

The integrated high-security firewall with stateful inspection, intrusion detection, and denial-of-service protection screens the network safely and reliably from attacks from the Internet. The included management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor offer not only convenient remote maintenance of entire installations and useful setup wizards—such as the 1-Click-VPN wizard which allows the simple setup of VPN connections between LANCOM routers—but also real-time monitoring and logging. Comprehensive backup and high-availability functions guarantee smooth 24-hour operations.

The LANCOM 1781A-3G is available now at a price of EUR 849 excluding VAT. The device provides 5 VPN channels as standard. An optional extra upgrades this to 25 channels. An optional content filter for up to 100 users can be enabled.
