LANCOM enters the WLAN controller market with its own line of products

Aachen, October 10, 2007 - LANCOM Systems present the new WLAN Controllers LANCOM WLC-4006 and LANCOM WLC-4025, the first in a new line of products. Known as "smart controllers", these devices quickly and easily integrate all of the components in a wireless network to increase the security and simplify the management of enterprise infrastructure. These two WLAN Controllers present LANCOM's customers with entirely new scenarios that offer massive benefits. Controllers provide centralized configuration and management for higher security WLAN environments without additional effort.

The benefits to specialist resellers are that they can address a completely new circle of customers and that they can also offer valuable add-ons to past projects and increase their revenues.

"Two main aspects speak for our entry into the market for WLAN controllers: Simplified administration and WLAN security. Managing IT infrastructure today causes just as many headaches in small to medium-sized businesses as it does for large enterprises," comments Ralf Koenzen, Managing Director of LANCOM Systems. "We are now in a position to offer a solution which benefits from our years of experience in WLAN markets. The simplified administration provided by a central controller quickly pays for itself even where just a small number of WLAN access points is in service. Furthermore, central management significantly improves security. From a central location, administrators can very easily handle and monitor the observance of security policy.

Rahul Bobba, WLAN Product Manager at LANCOM Systems, adds: LANCOM's "smart controllers" forward the data depending on the application or even the user - direct bridging to the LAN for maximum performance, separation from the LAN and into a dedicated VLAN for WLAN guest accounts, or tunneling to the controller for roaming between IP subnets. The latter ensures that calls made by WLAN mobile phone no longer break up when moving between subnets."

Furthermore, not just all of the current LANCOM WLAN access points and WLAN routers but also future LANCOM access points based on the emerging IEEE 802.11n standard can be integrated into WLAN management without the Controller becoming a central bottle-neck due to increased bandwidth.

Shipping now, each LANCOM WLAN Controller can manage up to 6 (LANCOM WLC-4006) or 25 access points (LANCOM WLC-4025). An upgrade option doubles the numbers of managed devices to 12 and 50 access points respectively. Prices range from 1499 EUR excl. VAT to 6249 EUR excl. VAT (LANCOM WLC-4025).
