Extensive updates to software for LANCOM devices

LCOS 7.6 has numerous new features and improvements

Aachen, March 17, 2009 - The free new version 7.6 of the LANCOM operating system LCOS offers all LANCOM routers, access points, WLAN controllers and gateways a multitude of new features and improvements.

The integrated firewall has undergone a total re-design. The new graphical interface offers object-orientated configuration. It is now far simpler for users to create and edit complex sets of rules. Settings can now be adjusted far more accurately thanks to new triggers for backup and new QoS settings such as session limits and relative bandwidth settings.

Also completely new is the web-browser configuration interface WEBconfig, which has been redesigned to adopt the logical structure and style of the Windows configuration program LANconfig.

Another innovation is the transfer of configuration files between similar devices. This allows, for example, replacement devices or additional network devices to be fully configured with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Another important innovation with LCOS 7.6 is the remote maintenance of serial devices: The newly integrated COM-port server and COM-port forwarding enable data to be exchanged as per RFC2217. This allows devices connected to the serial port to be remotely controlled over any IP connection.

Operators of VPN benefit from new a XAUTH client and server. For example, this allows the iPhone to operate with VPN access. iPhone users with software version 2.0 or higher can work with VPN security when accessing their local network via UMTS.

WLAN users benefit from improved compatibility and performance with high-speed wireless LAN as per IEEE 802.11n (up to 300 Mbps).

LCOS 7.6 is the first version of LCOS to go through LANCOM's new release procedure. This involves not only extensive quality assurance testing, but also customer feedback from a test phase lasting several months. LCOS 7.6, detailed data sheets and further information are available for download from the LANCOM Web site: www.lancom.eu

"LCOS 7.6 emphasizes the LANCOM commitment to continuity and the protection of our customers' investment," says Roland Burlaga, Product Manager at LANCOM Systems. "Power users are going to like our completely reworked WEBconfig, which now adopts the logical structure and the style of the Windows configuration program LANconfig. Parameter pages with tabs have a similar look and feel as the dialogs in LANconfig, and a range of new Wizards now offer a similar level of convenience for quick device setup by browser. With LCOS 7.6, LANCOM routers and access points are now the first choice for corporate customers working with non-Windows platforms and looking for professional networking infrastructure Made in Germany."
