Jury awards prize to outdoor access point LANCOM OAP-310agn Wireless
LANCOM access point takes the IT Innovation Prize 2009
Aachen, March 12, 2009 - The LANCOM outdoor access point LANCOM OAP-310agn Wireless is the winner of the "Innovationspreis-IT" (IT Innovation Prize) at CeBIT 2009. Under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, a distinguished panel of judges consisting of professors, scientists, industry representatives and journalists declared the access point to be the winner in the category "Storage/Networks".
The jury was impressed by the unique combination of state-of-the-art wireless LAN and established antenna technology. The LANCOM OAP-310agn Wireless is the first outdoor WLAN access point on the market to support the high-speed WLAN standard IEEE 802.11n. An innovative combination of multi-path transmission technology with polarization diversity antennas enables the access point to establish directional radio links offering net data rates of up to 100 Mbps as per the draft version of the 802.11n standard. In comparison: Typical DSL speeds today reach approx. 16,000 kbps.
With a minimum of effort, companies can use the LANCOM OAP 310agn Wireless to set up broadband networking between buildings which are some distance apart, such as between the administration and the production facilities. Even extremely large quantities of data, such as those used for construction data in mechanical engineering, can be transferred with high levels of speed and reliability. Similarly, temporary sites such as additional warehousing or logistics facilities can be integrated into the company network in a minimum of time and at low cost.
The LANCOM OAP-310agn Wireless is also ideal for bridging the last mile to companies or even entire industrial estates in regions lacking DSL coverage. By using a directional radio link based on two such access points, high bandwidth connections can be established to the nearest optical-fiber backbone, even over distances of several kilometers.
The "Initiative Mittelstand" (SME Initiative) awarded the IT Innovation Prize for the sixth year in succession. The prize is awarded to innovative solutions which are particular value in helping small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) to achieve long-term optimization and increased efficiency.
