LANCOM round off their range of outdoor wireless LAN products

LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless with integrated directional antenna is the self-contained package for economical wireless bridges

Aachen, September 02, 2008 - The networking specialists LANCOM Systems rounds off their outdoor wireless LAN range with three new products.

The LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless is ideal for setting up highly cost-effective directional radio bridges. It is the first outdoor access point in its class to have a high-performance dual-band directional antenna integrated directly into its housing especially for economical point-to-point (P2P) connections. There is no need for external directional antennas and their associated costs. For other purposes, such as public wireless LAN access (Hotspots), the external antenna connectors can alternatively be used to connect the supplied omni-directional antennas or one of the sector antennas from LANCOM's extensive portfolio of outdoor solutions.

The LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless also breaks new ground with its heating and cooling systems: As these are passive, they cut power consumption and allow the device to be powered by standard PoE (IEEE 802.af). The LANCOM design features a specialized housing construction and the consistent use of high-quality components.

The access point has a highly robust IP67 protective housing and is suitable for operation in temperatures from 30°C to +70°C. The wireless module operates with the IEEE 802.11a/h and IEEE 802.11b/g WLAN standards at either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. P2P connections can operate over distances of up to 20 kilometers with the permitted transmission powers of up to 1000 mW EIRP in the 5 GHz band.

The LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless is supplied with a full range of accessories: Mounting materials, outdoor cables and the appropriate standards-compliant 802.3af PoE adapter.

Also new: The LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless Bridge Kit. This complete package based on the LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless includes all of the components necessary for establishing a P2P wireless bridge: Each kit contains two access points plus accessories and also two AirLancer Extender SA-LAN surge-protection adapters for LAN cables.

The final element in this multiple product launch is the low-cost WLAN client LANCOM OAC-54-1 Wireless. This product is on offer to wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) as a 5-piece bulk package only.

All products based on the LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless offer an all-round range of security features. The security standard IEEE 802.11i provides absolutely secure wireless communications—even with point-to-point connections—for protection against attack without performance losses. The wireless LAN can still be secured and controlled by 802.1x, WPA, WPA-2, ACL und LEPS.

The LANtools are professional and convenient utilities for managing and monitoring the security features (LANconfig / LANmonitor). What’s more, the wireless module works with multiple SSIDs to support up to 8 WLAN networks simultaneously.

The LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless is available now for EUR 850 excluding VAT. The LANCOM OAP-54-1 Wireless Bridge Kit is available at EUR 1,925 excluding VAT. The WLAN client LANCOM OAC-54-1 Wireless is available as a 5-peice bulk package for EUR 2,999 excluding VAT
