LANCOM:

Passive cooling and switched mode power supplies save energy by up to 20%

Aachen, June 4, 2008 - In many companies a significant proportion of energy costs are caused by the IT infrastructure. Consequently, purchases of servers and networking hardware are increasingly being influenced by aspects such as energy efficiency and power consumption.

In an effort to further reduce the power consumption of its products, the networking company LANCOM Systems recently started equipping its products with switched mode power supplies (SMPS) instead of transformers. This enables the company to reduce the power consumption of its hardware products by up to 20% over conventional devices.

In addition to that, the minimization of power losses is a consideration for LANCOM products even at the design stage. The result is significant energy savings both in production and operation of the devices.

The hardware is specifically designed for energy efficiency, allowing just about all of our products to operate with passive cooling. As a consequence, the lack of moving parts ensures extremely quiet, low-maintenance and fail-safe operation.
