LANCOM Systems launches firmware for IPv6
Testing now possible with several LANCOM products
Aachen, January 17, 2012—LANCOM Systems, the network specialist based in Germany, now offers for its business VPN routers a beta version of its operating system LCOS with support for the new Internet address standard IPv6. Available for free from the LANCOM web site, the update LCOS 8.61 (Beta 1) is based on version 8.60 with the addition of IPv6 capability. This exclusive trial version allows IPv6 to be tested with many current LANCOM network components, even before the widespread introduction of the new standard. Also available is the corresponding version of the Windows configuration tool LANconfig 8.61 (Beta 1).
New features in LCOS 8.61 and LANconfig 8.61
The new version of LCOS allows direct IPv6 access over DSL connections that are based on IPv6 or dual-stack enabled. It is also possible to operate a number of different tunnel techniques for IPv6 Internet access, even if your local provider does not support native IPv6. The configuration program LANconfig facilitates the setup of IPv6 Internet access with a configuration wizard. Device searches and configuration can also be carried out via IPv6.
The range of IPv6 functions in the operating system will be gradually expanded in the coming months, the focus being on the firewall and VPN functionality.
The LANCOM homepage area (www.lancom.eu) dedicated to IPv6 provides various techpapers on migration and tunnel technology, ready for download now. Also available on the LANCOM web site is further information on the IPv6 Addendum to the Reference Manual.
