Luxembourg equips schools with Wi-Fi infrastructure from LANCOM Systems

Aachen, Luxembourg, January 25, 2016 - As a part of the eduWiFi campaign, all of the secondary schools in Luxembourg are to be equipped with a high-performance wireless network over the next few months. The Wi-Fi infrastructure for this nation-wide project is supplied by LANCOM Systems, the leading German manufacturer of networking solutions for the private and the public sectors. The costs are being carried by the Luxembourg Ministry of Education.

As a part of the eduWiFi campaign, every secondary school is to be equipped with secure and standardized wireless Internet access for pupils and teachers. The schools are being donated a Wi-Fi starter kit of 20 LANCOM WLAN access points and a WLAN controller to manage the Wi-Fi network. If additional infrastructure is necessary, the schools can extend this package on favorable terms. The installation and commissioning of the systems are to be supported by the IT Institute of the Luxembourg Ministry of Education (Centre de gestion informatique de l’éducation, CGIE).

The action plan for eduWiFi has two stages: the first phase focuses on schools that have only minimal Wi-Fi coverage or no Wi-Fi infrastructure at all. This is followed by those schools that already have a wireless network, which will be replaced and expanded.

eduWiFi is closely linked to the education roaming project eduroam (www.eduroam.lu). eduroam is a worldwide program that offers students and professors at participating universities high-speed and secure access to the campus Wi-Fi by means of their own personal login.
