Wireless Ethernet in Industry
LANCOM XAC-40-1: Robustness and security are fundamental
Aachen, April 11, 2007—Whereas Ethernet is a long-established standard in office communications, industrial environments have chiefly relied upon vendor-specific solutions until now.
LANCOM Systems presents Ethernet-based wireless solutions for demanding industrial applications at the Hanover Fair from April 16 – 20, 2007. The new wireless LAN client LANCOM XAC 40 is the perfect supplement to WLAN base stations from LANCOM.
This universally deployable, robust wireless client can operate as a WLAN connection terminal, for example to provide a stationary or mobile network connection.
It functions as a transparent WLAN-to-Ethernet translator and is suitable for operation under severe environmental conditions. The LANCOM XAC-40-1 transfers data at up to 108 Mbps in the 2.4- and 5-GHz frequency bands, offers a comprehensive range of security and QoS functions and also a method of fast roaming that ensures reliable connections at all times. An extensive range of management systems is available for operation and rollout.
LCOS (the LANCOM Operating System) is a collection of management tools and security functions that ideally meets all requirements.
The LANCOM XAC-40-1 achieves an extremely high degree of operating reliability due to a power supply with 4-fold redundancy and sturdy hardware that can withstand the vibrations and extreme EMC conditions of industrial environments.
The compact housing with top-hat rail mountings for space-saving switching cabinet assembly, an extended temperature range of 20°C to +50°C and an IP40-rated housing mean that the LANCOM XAC-40-1 can operate not only in production facilities but even withstands the extreme conditions of wind generators, large-scale industrial plant, and a wide range of logistics environments.
The LANCOM XAC-40-1 will be available from June 2007. This wireless LAN client costs EUR 570 plus VAT.
Christian Schallenberg, Head of Product Marketing at LANCOM Systems GmbH: “The market for industrial Ethernet offers great opportunities for implementing professional network technology. This young market prompted us to develop products designed specifically for it. We are proud of our achievements to date in this market as we have won major customers with our LANCOM WLAN technology."
