IT security products from LANCOM free of concealed backdoors
Commitment from LANCOM Systems strengthens the "Made in Germany" brand
Aachen, September 18, 2007—With their commitment to the manufacture of security products that are free of hidden access contingencies, LANCOM Systems, an active member of the export initiative "IT Security made in Germany" (ITSMIG), is contributing to the long-term strengthening of the "Made in Germany" brand.
"IT Security made in Germany" is an export initiative supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), in which the networking specialists of Aachen, Germany, publicly declare not to produce software with security risks from hidden access contingencies or watered-down encryption methods. By accessing what is known as a backdoor, a user can circumvent the usual access restrictions presented by a computer program to gain unauthorized access to computers or networks.
The legal situation in Germany allows German companies to manufacture and market IT security products with full-strength encryption and without any hidden backdoors.
"By signing this commitment, we offer all of our customers an important quality feature of our value-added strategy and we also underline our professional demands of secure and future-ready networking solutions for small and mid-sized companies as well as for large enterprises," says Ulrich Prinz, Managing Director of LANCOM Systems explaining his commitment to the ITSMIG
This commitment by LANCOM Systems is voluntary and highlights its position as the leader German manufacturer of networking components.
The initiative IT Security made in Germany
Currently around 40 leading German IT security companies are members of the IT Security made in Germany (ITSMIG) imitative. The central theme is high-quality IT security, including biometrics, smartcards, encryption technologies and public key infrastructures. Members include manufacturers, system vendors and security service providers who satisfy the strict membership criteria. This network aims to build bridges between its members and overseas customers and partners. The initiative is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and functions as a public-private partnership (PPP). Management is handled by the ITSMIG control group, the project office at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT).
