LANCOM Systems presents new versatile outdoor access point

LANCOM OAP-382: Twin 300-Mbps radio modules and fiber-optic connector in an outdoor housing

Aachen, May 07, 2012—LANCOM Systems, the specialist in network connectivity and wireless LAN, introduces the OAP-382, a dual-radio 802.11n access point with fiber-optical and 48-V connectors for high-power radio links under extreme outdoor conditions.

Featuring internal heating and cooling, the LANCOM OAP-382 can operate in temperatures ranging from -30 to +65 °C. This makes it ideal for industrial or outdoor applications and for hotspot operators. Powered via Power-over-Ethernet and featuring a fiber-optic connector, the access point is ideal for installation away from power sources and/or without Ethernet cables, as may be necessary on high masts, for example.

The extremely robust metal housing is rated to IP66 and thus resistant to strong water jets, which makes this access point ideal for extreme climatic conditions such as in harbors, mountainous areas, or over the city rooftops.

The LANCOM OAP-382 features two dual-band radio modules compliant with IEEE 802.11a/g/n, which operate either in the 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency bands. In the BFWA spectrum (5.755 to 5.875 GHz) the device offers wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) the option of configuring high-performance point-to-point links with up to 4000 mW. In combination with the dual-polarization antenna AirLancer Extender O-D9a, wireless point-to-point links can be implemented over several kilometers.

The LANCOM OAP-382 offers an exhaustive selection of security features: The standard IEEE 802.11i provides absolutely secure wireless connections - including point-to-point bridges - for protection against attack without loss of performance. The wireless LAN can be fully secured and monitored with 802.11i, 802.11x or WPA2. What’s more, the two wireless modules work with multiple SSIDs to support up to 16 WLAN networks simultaneously. The free LANCOM Management Software (LANconfig / LANmonitor and WLANmonitor) provide professional management and user-friendly monitoring.

The LANCOM OAP-382 is available from May 2012 at EUR 2299 (suggested retail price excluding VAT). Access points are shipped with a complete set of accessories: The price includes mounting materials, outdoor-LAN and antenna cables, antenna adapters, and a high-power PoE Injector. LANCOM also supplies a comprehensive range of optional accessories. Details can be found on the LANCOM web site.
