Router multiplier
LANCOM Advanced Routing & Forwarding provides up to 64 routers in a single device
Aachen, August 18, 2007 - Advanced Routing & Forwarding or ARF from LANCOM Systems enables the complete virtualization of LANCOM routers with the latest free update to their operating system LCOS.
Each device can now define two, eight or even up to 64 full and independent contexts.
These are environments that feature their own independent interfaces, IP networks, VLANs, rules for routing, firewall and QoS, DHCP servers, and DNS settings, among others. The result is that a single router can support a range of scenarios that until now would have demanded multiple dedicated devices.
Feasible applications include the deployment as central infrastructure at office parks, or the separation of different access routes to a company network for the maintenance of telephone exchanges or servers. Other applications may include the separation of a productive network from WLAN guest access, the separation of teachers and pupils in school networks, or the strict separation of a business home office from the family's private LAN.
As a further extra, dedicated firewall rules enable a controlled transition between otherwise strictly separated contexts for shared use of IP infrastructure (server, printer, etc.).
Further details on ARF in the new LCOS 7.22 are to be found in the Guided Tour on the LANCOM website at the following address:
Gunnar Mayer, Secure Access Product Manager at LANCOM Systems: "LANCOM gives you more... Routing! Our free operating-system upgrade offers you ARF, which completely virtualizes routers. Once again LANCOM customers profit from the safeguarding of their investment and from our innovation, and even older devices benefit from a new and genuine added value."
