Your company is expanding, more and more sites and employees are joining, and with them networked machines and mobile devices that challenge your LAN infrastructure on a daily basis. The larger your network becomes, the more likely you should consider a hierarchical network design with more powerful switches in order to be able to withstand future growth and technology trends. With clever distribution of tasks and responsibilities, you can optimize network performance, ensure greater security, and dynamically adapt your network to the size of your company.
Find out why a three-tier network with LANCOM switches is not only the next level, but offers you the decisive advantage to be successful with the constantly rising network requirements. Are you ready for the next step?
Which switch architecture is best for you?
The switch architecture forms the basis for the efficiency and performance of your entire network. It is therefore worth taking a look at the hierarchy levels and the switches used: optimizing and updating your existing infrastructure can be a cost-effective solution to improve the performance of two-tier networks. However, if your company is growing and has more complex requirements, it may make sense to switch to a three-tier network architecture including the new LANCOM core switch.
You already know our access and aggregation switches with the well-known quality and reliability of LANCOM. Now we are rounding things off and adding an important functional level to our portfolio – the core level!
But more importantly, what does this mean for you? With the expanded switch portfolio, you can now operate three-tier network infrastructures at all levels with LANCOM switches. Even for very large infrastructures such as campus networks with a high number of end devices or distributed building sections, your network can therefore be operated 100% by us. This gives you the best possible investment protection and uniform management at all levels!
Let's exchange ideas and take your network to the next level!
Why a scalable switch architecture is worth it for you
5 reasons for LANCOM core & aggregation switches
100% uptime of the network
- Redundancy and load distribution through seamless takeover in the event of device failure thanks to Virtual Port Channel (VPC / MC-LAG)
- This enables uninterrupted in-service software upgrades (ISSU)
- Alternatively, if a maintenance window is possible: use of stacking
- Maximum reliability thanks to redundant, hot-swappable power supply units and fans
- Redundancy up to access point level with dual PoE
Flexible hardware design
- High operational flexibility due to selectable ventilation concept with front-to-back (F2B) or back-to-front (B2F) airflow
- Integrated function and memory extensions for the use of third-party software such as monitoring applications
- Easy installation in server racks with integrated rack rails
High investment protection
- Limited Lifetime Warranty for up to 10 years free replacement service
- Proprietary LCOS SX switch operating system family with regular, free feature and security updates
- Fast support through bilingual in-house support and free accessible documentation as well as specialized training on request
- No hidden license costs and no time-consuming and expensive retrofitting of modules
Everything from a single source
- Comprehensive switching portfolio with access, aggregation / distribution, and core switches
- Single sourcing via complete network structures with firewalls, routers, switches, and access points – centrally managed via a management interface (LANCOM Management Cloud)
- Digital sovereignty with true GDPR compliance, no backdoors, and "Engineered in Germany"
The right switches for every company size
LANCOM offers a complete range of campus switching products that allow the realization of network scenarios with different network requirements and sizes. You can cover all network scenarios from retail networks, manufacturing LANs and logistics centers to office towers, schools, and campuses with a diverse selection of access, aggregation / distribution, and core switches.
LANCOM Access Switches
The access switches form the interface at the lowest network level (access layer) to which all access points and end devices, e.g. PCs, IP telephones, and printers, connect. They are characterized by a high port density and connection diversity and ensure simple connectivity and management for the distribution of the network to the connected clients. PoE-capable switches also take over the power supply to the end devices.

LANCOM Aggregation Switches
The aggregation / distribution switches are the intermediaries between the access and core levels. On the one hand, they combine (aggregate) the uplinks of the underlying access level and, on the other hand, efficiently distribute the network traffic between different devices and network segments. With redundancy options such as VPC, stacking, STP, and VRRP, these switches play a decisive role in the high availability of the LAN.

LANCOM Core Switch
The core switch forms the top layer of a corporate LAN and is the high-performance backbone of the network. As the main traffic point, it handles the efficient forwarding of data packets either from the WAN / Internet to the underlying switch layers or in the opposite direction. Functions such as VPC and VRRP, high throughput capacity (6x100G), very low latency, and reliability are the main features of the core switch.
